Basic learning of Praise and Worship Band I
Praise and Worship band is not for individual playing or so called “one man show”. they are in a team. So no matter how good you are in music, you need to be in team. Below are some important need to know key point when you are one of the member of praise and worship band.
Drummer
- Foundation of the praise and worship song playing. It is a time keeper for the whole song.
- The one who control the rhythm change, from slow to fast or fast to slow tempo within a song.
- Drum player and bass player should be close to each other because they are in the same sense for time keeping and they need to hear each other on what they are playing.
Bass player
- Also foundation of praise and worship song, he is in sync with drummer. So before they start to play any song, they should sit together and analysis the song and know what they should play.
- Also as time keeper for praise and worship song.
- Normally emphasis on 1, 3 for 4/4 based song.
Guitarist
- Not too much playing on vocal line but chord, and also fill in especially those empty spaces.
- Emphasis on 2, 4 for 4/4 based song.
- Need to harmornize with with pianist/keyboardist. Either one only to be stronger or weaker but not both at the same time.
- if keyboard is busy on key fill in, try to have sustaining chord on guitar or vice versa.
- Keep it simple playing
Pianist/keyboardist
- Not too much playing on vocal line but chord, and also fill in especially those empty spaces.
